The ancient Egyptians honoured the relationship of body and mind by using altered states in their “sleep temples”. Here, during a one month stay, people would renew and regenerate themselves.
The ancient Greeks named this technique hypnosis (meaning sleep) because of the deep trance that was experienced. In 350 BC, Hypocrites, wrote that “all feelings and emotions originate in the brain and are the source of any disease of the body”.
Hypnosis was brought to the forefront in the medical field again in the 1800s. Doctors performed delicate eye surgeries, removed diseased organs and removed limbs without anaesthesia. These surgeries were pain-free and in most cases with little or no discomfort upon awakening.
Today, this method of hypnosis healing has once more made a comeback. Hypnotherapy is not the cliché “Look into my eyes you are in my power” or the stage performance “Cluck like a chicken”. It is a relaxed state of mind that lets your inner wisdom become your guide. Your subconscious mind will only reveal what YOU choose to reveal. Thus it is very important to get to know your therapist and form a relationship based on trust.
The treatment starts with the client either sitting or lying down fully clothed. I help deepen the relaxed state to the point where the client can access their inner voice. I can help change deep-rooted fears and beliefs by changing the thought pattern(s). Sometimes a single session can bring such profound changes that a single session is all that the client needs to clarify their issue!
